Classical Ballet and Modern
Our classical ballet program is designed with 8 levels for a complete ballet education. Students progress through levels based on their developing technical skills. Weekly curriculum includes barre work, center exercises, allegro, pirouette, adagio, pointe, repertory, and pas de deux. Levels V & above are also required to include a contemporary or jazz class. All students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Lakeville City Ballet production of The Nutcracker. Students desiring a less intense ballet schedule are welcome to participate in the program, but will not have the opportunity to perform in the spring show, The Evening of Ballet. However, all classical ballet students may participate in the Lakeville City Ballet production of The Nutcracker. Nutcracker choreography will be included in all levels of the regular ballet class curriculum. Classical ballet levels V and higher should expect to purchase a minimum of 3 costumes. Pointe work is introduced in ballet level V. Girls must be 11 years of age or older and be enrolled in a minimum of 3 ballet technique classes per week.

Ballet I: Meets once a week for 1 hour. Students learn the basic foundations for ballet study. Students must be 7 years old to begin the classical ballet program. Leotard: Light Pink

Ballet II: Meets twice a week for a total of 2½ hours. Students must have completed one or more years of ballet. Leotard: Light Blue

All NEW students seeking enrollment in Ballet III through VIII must participate in a placement class. Instructors determine placement.
Placement is not based on age.

Ballet III: Meets twice a week for a total of 3¼ hours. Students must have completed one year of Ballet II and should exhibit a general understanding of ballet terminology and proper execution of basic steps. Leotard: Hunter or Forest Green

Ballet IV: Meets 3 times a week for a total of 5 hours. Students must have completed Ballet III to enroll. Leotard: Burgundy

*Classical Ballet levels Intermediate and higher are strongly encouraged to enroll in “Encore Jazz” as part of their training.

Ballet V:
Ballet V meets 3 times a week for a total of 6½ hours.
Ballet V is required to participate in a Contemporary Ballet class as part of their training. Students must have completed Ballet IV to enroll. Pointe is introduced to individual students who are 11 years or older, as they become technically and physically ready. Leotard: Royal Blue

Ballet VI:
Ballet VI meets a minimum of 4 times a week for a total of 8½ hours.
Ballet VI is required to participate in a Contemporary Ballet class as part of their training. Students must have completed Ballet V to enroll. Pointe and repertoire are offered in this level. Students must have an understanding of ballet terminology and be technically proficient with elementary level steps. VI Leotard: Purple

Intermediate Ballet: meets a minimum of 5 times a week for a total of 12 hours for the dancer who has completed Levels 1 – VI or for the new student who has auditioned and placed in this level. Students must have an understanding of ballet terminology and be technically proficient with intermediate level steps. Students are encouraged to enroll in *Encore Jazz II as part of their training. Intermediate Leotard: Navy

Advanced Ballet: meets a minimum of 5 times a week for a total of 12¼ hrs. This class is for the serious ballet student. Enrollment in this class is by audition or invitation only. Students must have an understanding of ballet terminology and be technically proficient with advanced level steps. Students are required to enroll in Advanced Contemporary class as part of their training. Students are also encouraged to enroll in *Encore Jazz II as part of their training. Advanced Leotard: Black
*Encore Jazz II is geared for the Intermediate & Advanced Ballet student.

Pas de deux
David Stright teaches a class in partnering, Pas de deux, which is designed for advanced ballet levels or by invitation. It will be offered on Fridays at 6:15 - 7:15pm. To make this class possible, we need any and all men to help on a committed 1-month basis. The dancers and partners will learn the basic partnering steps. No ballet training is needed for the men. Attire will be easy-breathable clothes (sweats & t-shirt) The only requirement is enthusiasm. Please contact Denise Vogt if your Dad, Uncle or Friend is interested in joining this class with you.

Summer Intensive Ballet Workshop & Summer Evening Program

The Summer Intensive Ballet Workshop offers classes to serious students with a background in Classical Ballet. It features daily intensive classical ballet technique and classes in Pointe, repertoire, modern, Jazz, Theater & Choreography with DanceWorks and Guest teachers.
The Summer Evening Ballet Program offers classical ballet classes for Levels I – Advanced in a less intensive evening format. All summer program students in Levels III – Advanced will have the opportunity to perform in Lakeville City Ballet’s Summer Dance Festival.

Tap
We offer 8 levels of tap for students interested in a more intense tap program. All classes will participate in Tap and Jazz Fest as well as the spring recital. All students in Tap I-VIII are required to wear black jazz pants and black shirt (any style). All Tap students are required to have hard soled, black oxford tap shoes. Competition tap students may also be required to have tan tap shoes as well as an additional costume, as they will participate in 2 local competitions as part of their curriculum. All Tap program students will also be part of “Tap Extravaganza” as the finale for the spring recital. This dance will be taught during their regular tap class.

Tap I / II: Students must have prior tap experience and have instructor approval. Two years of combination classes are helpful before admittance to this tap class. Class meets for 1 hour once a week. Shirt color – Black

Tap III / IV: Students must have mastered all tap basics and some high-level tap techniques. Students should have a clear understanding of rhythm changes and ability to learn at a quick pace. Class meets for 1 hour, once a week. Shirt color – Black

Tap V: Students must have successfully mastered several high-level tap techniques as well as an excellent understanding of tap vocabulary. Class meets for 1 hour, once a week. Shirt color – Lilac
Tap VI: Must have instructor approval to participate in this high-level tap class. Class meets for 1 hour, once a week. Shirt color – Black

Competition Tap Line: Please be aware of the financial and time obligations related to this type of program. Four performing lines will be selected based on ability and age. Auditions will be held on Thursday, August 9th, the day after the summer tap workshops.

Competition Jazz Line: New for 2007-2008 is our intense competition jazz program. Students are required to commit to a combination of 4-5 hrs of instruction in ballet and jazz per week. Auditions for this class will be held on Thursday Sept. 27th 2007 at 7:00pm at Crossroads Studio. A two day workshop on Sept. 20th and Sept. 25th will preceed the audition. Students will participate in local and regional competitions starting this spring.

Jazz
Jazz Funk is a combination of jazz and hip-hop. It incorporates the “foundation elements” of jazz, yet encompasses the current styles of street dance and music video choreography. Jazz Funk I – V and Jazz Funk / Hip Hop VI – Advanced will participate in the Tap & Jazz Fest in March, as well as the spring recital. Current students should advance to the next level unless contacted by an instructor. All students are required to wear black jazz pants and black dance shirts for each class.

Jazz Funk I: This is a good class for students transitioning from combination classes. Students must be at least age 7 to begin Jazz Funk. Meets once a week for 1 hour. Shirt color – Black

Jazz Funk II: Students need to have at least 1 year of jazz experience or special permission from the teacher. Meets once a week for 1 hour. Shirt color - Black

Jazz Funk III: Students need to have at least 2 years jazz experience or special permission from the teacher. Meets once a week for 1 hour. Shirt color – Black

Jazz Funk IV: Students need to have at least 3 years of jazz experience or special permission from the teacher. Meets once a week for 1 hour. Shirt color – Black

Jazz Funk V: Students need to have at least 4 years of jazz experience or special permission from the teacher to participate in this class. Meets once a week for 1 hour. Shirt color – Black

Jazz Funk/ Hip Hop VI: Students need to have at least 5 years of jazz experience or special permission from the teacher to participate in this class. Meets once a week for 1½ hours.
Shirt color – Black

Jazz Funk/Hip Hop VII: This is a 1½-hour class for the advanced Jazz Funk/Hip Hop dancer. Shirt color- Black

Jazz Funk/Hip Hop VIII: This is a 1½-hour class for the advanced Jazz Funk/Hip Hop dancer. Shirt color- Black

Advanced Jazz Funk/Hip Hop: Dancers must have instructor approval to participate in this high level Jazz Funk / Hip Hop class which meets for 1½ hours per week. Shirt color- Black

Jazz Funk/Hip Hop for the Class of 2008: This class is for “seniors only”. This class will focus mostly on choreography, so students are encouraged to take a second class at their level during the week. Meets once a week for 1½ hours. Shirt color - Black

Danceline
Danceline students are required to wear black jazz pants and black shirt as indicated below, and black Capezio jazz shoes and black split-sole ballet slippers are also required.

All Stars Competition Danceline: Enrollment for this class is determined by Audition only. Anyone wishing to audition for this class MUST ATTEND all 4-days of the Competition Danceline Try-Outs Workshop. This class consists of synchronized kicks, teamwork, jazz-funk and fun. Students will participate in local dance team competitions, Jazz & Tap Fest and the Spring Recital Shows, as well as local high school events.

The competition costume for this class averages $185. Please anticipate this expense when enrolling. There will be NO “ALTERNATE” AUDITION DATE.

Youth Combo
Ballet/Tap or Jazz/Tap Combo Classes offer a progression of classes beginning with a primary introduction to the world of dance for students 5-7 years old. Refer to Page 10 for class attire requirements.

Beginning Ballet/Tap meets 1 hour per week: ½ hour for tap and ½ hour for ballet. This class is a fun learning and performing experience for students 5 - 6 years old.

Ballet/Tap I meets 1 hour a week. Students must have completed Beginning Ballet/Tap, or be at least 6 years old.

Jazz/Tap I and II is a progression of classes for the student with jazz, tap, and/or ballet experience. Students should be 7 years old to register for this class. Each class meets 1 hour a week.

Jazz/Tap III/IV is a progression of classes for the student with jazz, tap, and/or ballet experience. Students should be 7 years old to register for this class. Each class meets 1 1/2 hour a week.

Pre-Kindergarten
A-B Three’s is a program designed specifically for 3 year olds. Basic locomotor skills, counting, parachute play, and movement exploration comprise this ½ hour weekly class. Enrollment is ongoing monthly; class size is limited to 10 students per class. A-B Three’s will not participate in the spring recital, but will have an informal year-end program at DanceWorks Studio. A-B Three students should wear pink leotards, pink tights and pink ballet slippers.

KinderMoves meets for 45 minutes each week and is open to 4-year-olds. It emphasizes locomotor skills, basic ballet moves, rhythmic activities, creative movement, and just plain having fun. Once your child turns 4, he/she may enroll in this program anytime up until December 1st and will not be subject to our fall “cut-off” open enrollment date. Black leotards, pink tights, and pink leather ballet slippers are required for girls and white shirt, black sweatpants, and black leather ballet slippers for boys.
